ING Bank Turkey’s "Being a technology company which has a banking licence" strategy makes innovation the top priority of the company. In the 3rd quarter of 2014 we began to work on an ING Bank ParaMara (Digital Wallet) Apple watch application which is based on the leaked prototypes of the apple watch. While working on this application we received an invitation from Apple to their Palo Alto campus to get feedbacks from Apple Watch team.
Project team consisted of 3 developers, 2 business analyst, 1 visual designer and I as lead the UX designer & researcher. I created paper version of the apple watch and organized meetings to show what could be the usage of the product. I leaded and worked hands-on user research, information architecture and prototyping. Also I was part of the Product Strategy Team who defined application features.
Before designing a product which is going to be used for an existing device; gathering user data, observing the users etc. are the first things to do. But when the device hadn’t been released and you have no clue how the usage is going to be, things changes.
With the paper prototype of the apple watch we tried to make predictions. Our predictions were based on the customer profile which is going to use this device.
Apple watch is not a complete product by itself and it needs an iPhone to be used. So we build our application development approach based on this fact.
ING Turkey's digital wallet, ParaMara, is a mobile banking app available to both ING and non-ING customers. It allows people to conduct a wide range of actions, such as transferring money (to an ING ATM, to an ING card, between ING cards, or to a user's Facebook account), withdrawing money from an ING ATM via a QR code, asking for cash, and more.
Our user research revealed some basic facts about ParaMara users. They use the application mostly for sending and receiving money. So we based the application on pushing notification to the Watch.
